EU takes next steps in logistics probe
EUROPEAN logistics operators Panalpina, Kuehne+Nagel and a French subsidiary of DSV have received statements of objections from the European Commission over allegations of uncompetitive behaviour in the freight forwarding industry stretching back two years.
A statement of objections enables named companies to respond to Brussels’ preliminary findings over a possible violation of European competition law. It does not prejudge the final decision, which is subject to appeal to the European courts.
Panalpina said last week that it would “closely examine” the commission’s preliminary findings and would respond “in due time”.
A spokesperson for K+N said that it would “examine the statement of objections, will respond in due course ”.
DSV Group is not directly involved in the current investigations but said that the statement related to one matter for its activities under the name of ABX Logistics Air & Sea (France) during 2003 and 2004.
The supply chain operators are party to a multinational probe into alleged anticompetitive behaviour by a number of major freight forwarding companies.
The investigations, which began in October 2007, are being conducted by several competition authorities , including the US Department of Justice.
